Beyonce (and Sasha Fierce) en Español
First, Beyonce wanted to be Latina.
Now, she actually wants to fulfill one of the traits of being a culturally-conscious Latina, she wants to master that Español.
La Beyonce, who sung the Zorro telenovela title song “Amor Gitano” with Alejandro Fernandez wants via Hooked on Spanish (hee, hee, I’m sure it was really Rosetta Stone, or some equivalent) wishes she could really speak Spanish.
Sasha Fierce.
During an interview with a Mexican news station, the singer affirmed that she’s very influenced by Latino culture and it’s for that reason that she’s recorded the song “If I Were a Boy”, the first single from her album, in Spanish for the re-issuing of “I Am…Sasha Fierce”.
Apparently, that news station also had the privilege of hearing some more Latinophile gushing from La Beyonce:
“I’m very happy because one of my friends who’s Latina told me, “You really need to do this song in Spanish, ’cause there are a lot of artists who represent what you represent, and we really need to put these dudes in their place.’ So I went ahead and recorded it, but I don’t speak Spanish, although I really would like to. A really good friend of mine from childhood is Mexican and my best friend is Cuban-Dominican so I’m surrounded by people who speak Spanish and I’m so jealous because I can’t sing it, but I can speak it.”
Um, er. Um. How comforting it is to know that some of Beyonce’s best friends are Latinas.
She sings, she dances. She tells men off in English and Spanish.
Can someone make her into an Honorary Latina already?
