Benicio del Toro always impresses us with his activism. His latest? He has partnered with animal rights organization PETA to petition Puerto Rico’s governor to stop the breeding of a group of monkeys from the island of Mauritius.
Bioculture is a company is actually planning to use the monkeys and sell off their offspring for experiments.
This is an excerpt from the letter that Benny wrote to Puerto Rico’s governor Luis Fortuño about his opposition to the Guayama mpnkey facility .
“[M]ost Puerto Ricans are strongly opposed to Bioculture’s plans. Please don’t allow Puerto Rico to be associated with a facility that profits from extreme animal abuse.”
Don’t you just love Benicio? Talented and sensitive. Sigh.

Sean Penn is known as temperamental hombre in Hollywood but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have his good points. The actor stood up for Benicio del Toro’s lack of Oscar recognition for his role as Che in the movie Guerrilla, telling an Australian weekly:
“The fact that there aren’t crowns on (Che director Steven) Soderbergh’s and Benicio Del Toro’s heads right now, I don’t understand.
That is such a sensational movie, Che. Benicio is f**king good in it. And the fact that I’m not running into these people on this awards-party circuit, it’s crazy.
“Maybe because it’s (Che) in Spanish, maybe the length, maybe the politics.”
Not sure Sean, but Benny Boy is still young and he’ll get another Oscar. One day. And I bet he appreciates your goodwill.

Ana Serradilla is on the cover of Revista Open. The actriz had a lot to say about her craft:
Los actores somos muy inseguros y siempre tenemos miedo de quedarnos sin trabajo; por eso, a veces tomas lo que te ofrecen. Al principio de tu carrera todos dicen que hagas todo, pero es un grave error. Debes seleccionar muy bien desde el principio.
We actors are really insecure CONTINUE READING

Benicio del Toro will be the first to admit that the Che 3-hour biopic Guerilla was taxing for him:
It was very difficult playing him,” he admits. “Filming took about 82 days, with one day off a week, to make two films. So it was exhausting. I put so much of my life into him.”
Now though, he’s reaping his reward. He’s been nominated for a Goya award, Spain’s equivalent of an Oscar, for his role in the movie! As for el puertorriqueño, he had this to say for himself:
Estoy muy contento de que por lo menos reconozcan la película en alguna parte de este mundo, algo que ayuda a (subir) la moral de la película.”
I’m really happy that at least the movie is being recognized in at least some parts of the world, which really helps the movie’s footing.
Congrats Benny Boy! You deserve it hands-down! We’ve said it, and we’re going to say it again: an Oscar is on the horizon!

Benicio del Toro admitted that he was kinda worried about how the Cubanos would react to the movie Guerilla in which he stars as revolutionary Che Guevarra.
“This is Cuban history, so there’s an audience in there that probably, that could be the biggest critics and the most knowledgeable critics of the historical accuracy of the film,” Del Toro said.
Worry, not Benny Boy. The Cannes-screened movie is a hit in Cuba, even with Fidelito, who’s depicted in the four-hour pelicula.
Some 2,000 Cuban moviegoers gave the cast a standing ovation at Havana’s jammed Yara cinema — after the films were shown. It was sensational, because we are bringing the film where it all began, we have crossed the finish line; it was moving,” del Toro glowed
People just know great things when they see them, regardless of their tendency to commit heinous fashion felonies.

Benicio del Toro is the celebrity covering the latest edition of Metro San Juan. In the issue Benny sounds off about the Puerto Rican movie scene, as well as being the first Puerto Rican to win the Best Actor Award at the Cannes Film Festival:
” I think it’s great and I’m very proud of it. To me, winning at the Cannes Film Festival, it’s a little bit like winning a medal in the Olympics. It would be an equivalent to that. My experience with that festival, because I’ve gone to that festival quite a few times before, is that the selection are usually top-notch world renowned movies and filmmakers. So winning one of those is an actor’s once in a lifetime [opportunity].
Being the first Puerto Rican [to win] that’s cool because the film festival…This is THE film festival in Europe … It’s like the Oscars in Europe . And I couldn’t have done it without the effort of so many people.

That Cannes Award is just the beginning Benny Boy. Wait til your other Oscar has company come Awards time!

No one can take away the shine from Edgar Ramirez, not even the fabulissimo Benicio del Toro.
The Venezuelano sounded off recently to Collider.com about playing opposite Benny Boy in the Che Gueverra biopic, Guerilla as well as his role in the movie:
Edgar Ramirez: I played Ciro Redondo. He was one of Che Guevara’s lieutenants. He was one of the few who was school educated so he was very much involved in the vocational aspect of the revolution because it was about freedom of education. It was about fighting and learning so my character was very focused on that.
Can you talk a little bit about working with Benicio and did you guy rehearse a lot?
Edgar Ramirez: Not really, no, no. It was an extreme happening. I mean we were there and we didn’t rehearse that much probably for technical reasons and then we went for it. He’s an amazing actor. He’s got such a density, you know, as an actor. He’s really committed and also very generous as an actor.
Ah, another great Latino thespian with a future in Hollywood.
You can’t hide, Ed. I see you papacito. And BTW, you’re officially on the Hissiper’s Radar.
