So Ivy Queen’s latest album was recently released after a three-year absence, last marked by 2007’s Sentimiento. It’s called Drama Queen. The cover makes her look rather evil, wouldn’t you say, like she’s an underground creature in some underground world or something. Or she’s Batman’s newest sidekick in Gotham City or something. But the album is titled Drama Queen, so dramatic things are expected.
“La Vida Es Así” is among the best songs the album has to offer. Keeping up with the latest trends, Ivy also has a bachata version of the song on the album.
One of the most appealing things about Ivy Queen—at least her persona—is that she has a vulnerability factor to her, in addition to that rough feminist edge that we love her for.
“Acércate” and “Amor Puro” brings out some of her sweetness, but don’t think you can take advantage of her, men out there! The queen of urban Latino radio is not going to be anybody’s patsy.
By the time “Cosas De La Vida” and “Cansada” comes on, it’s apparent that yes, the Queen has her soft spot, but don’t think you can take her for a ride (at least not at her own expense!), because she will gouge your eyes out with those long, very long fingernails. But perhaps she’s too much of a lady to get her claws out. She would just have to give you one of her stares, and you will know to respect her.
Thank you very much.
