Hissip has teamed up with Gibbs-Smith Publishers for one fabulissima giveaway (fabulissima is Hissip speak for some of ya’ll who don’t know [insert glare...]. You can be the winner of one of these stunning cookbooks.
Ready, ya’ll?
Here’s how it works…simply leave a comment below 1)letting me know who’s the best cook in your family (ok, if it’s not you) 2) pick out the book you’d like to win…in order of your favorite down…
Culinary Mexico [that's the one above]
Much more than a cookbook, Culinary Mexico is also a cook’s tool box, with a handful of kitchen techniques from seasoned chef Daniel Hoyer to help the Mexican food lover figure out how to flawlessly slap together Carne Asada a la Yucateca, and a bunch of other recipes (plus some gorgeous pics from food photographer Marty Snortum) from every section of Mexico.
Brazilian Table
If the measurements of Adriana Lima and Alessandra Ambrosio are all you know about Brazil, you had better get acquainted with the national cooking too! Paris and Brazil-educated chef Yara Roberts shows you that there’s more to Brazil than sensuous beaches, there’s delicious culinary offerings like Guava Paste Soufflé, duck suff, and Chicken Xim-Xim. Yeah, baby.
Culinary Concepts
This cookbook teaches you shortcuts as well as techniques to help you know your way around the kitchen just tid tad better.
Mayan Cuisine
Yet another great collaboration between chef Daniel Hoyer and food stager Marty Snortum, Mayan Cuisine will be another great addition to your kitchen cookbook shelf.
Three Guys from Miami Cook Cuban : 100 Great Recipes With a Touch of Miami Spice
And they cook. And cook, and cook! The three guys in question are Glenn Lindgren, Jorge Castillo, and Raul Musibay and they serve up a storm of good Cuban cooking, traditional as well as some culinary treasures from post-Modern Cuban cooking.
And then they were back at it again in Three Guys from Miami Celebrate Cuban : 100 Great Recipes for Cuban Entertaining—this time with lots and lots of party food.
Tamales
Keep in mind that this contest (like all contests) runs on a first-come first-served mantra, so early birds get the worm.
So how about it? Who wants to win one of these wonderful cookbooks? So seven books…seven winners…Let the contest begin!

Comment made on May 27, 2009 at 12:18 pm1. Tex-Mex/Norteña food is in my blood, but somehow, it’s the men in the family who cook best. Abuelo’s no longer with us, so I’m the best cook in the family for now. At least until my nephew grows up.
2. Mayan Cuisine is most intriguing. Then Culinary Concepts, Culinary Mexico, Tamales, Celebrate Cuban, Three Guys, and then the Brazilian book.

Comment made on May 27, 2009 at 3:59 pmMy grandmother, even though she has passed on, was the undisputed BEST cook EVER! I suppose my aunt is a close second but I still dream about Grandma’s food!
I’d love the Brazilian Cookbook the most, followed by the culinary techniques book and then the cuban cook book. After that I suppose the Mayan cuisine, then the Mexican cookbook and the tamale & Celebrate Cuban last.
Thanks!

Comment made on May 27, 2009 at 4:00 pmLa comida criolla de Mama (Gloria DelRio, my grandmother) has no competition…not only is her food great it is consistent…always know what I am in for when I get down to Florida…nothing but the best comida boricua made with homemade Sofrito. No woman in my life’s skill set even comes close…
Mayan Cuisine, Culinary Mexico, The brazilian table, Culinary Concepts,Tamales, Celebrate Cuban and then Three Guys.

Comment made on May 27, 2009 at 4:29 pmOops. Mayan Cuisine is taken so I would love Tamales – it will make a great book to take on my December trip to Australia where I will be throwing a tamalada for my friend who just got married and moved there. Watch out Oz, the Mexicana is coming.

Comment made on May 27, 2009 at 4:30 pmI’d have to say I’m the best cook in my household, but hubby makes a mean pizza! In my family….it’s my sister, hands down!
Great cookbooks! Culinary Mexico, Brazilian Table, Three Guys from Miama Cook Cuban, Tamales, Celebrate Cuban, Culinary Concepts, Mayan Cuisine

Comment made on May 27, 2009 at 5:07 pmMy mom is the best cook! Though in true Latina style, she always has to look fierce when she cooks, leading to the occasional sleeve lighting on fire over the stove…which just gives her an excuse to drink more wine.
my list- Celebrate Cuban, Culinary Mexico, Brazilian Table, Three Guys from Miami Cook Cuban, Culinary Concepts, Mayan Cuisine, Tamales

Comment made on May 27, 2009 at 5:14 pmMy wife is definitely the better chef. Her adaptations of Neapolitan, Chinese and Puerto Rican cuisines keep the family smiling. I’m a good breakfast chef but cannot compare with her tasty and nutritionally balanced fare.
Any of the above-listed cookbooks are well worth a read.
My order of preference is:
1)Mexican
2)Mayan
3)Tamales
4)Brazilian
5)Concepts
Thanks alot,
Gerard/NYC

Comment made on May 27, 2009 at 5:15 pmMy husband is a great cook but I’d have to say I’m just a bit better as far as instincts are concerned! No one else in my family can cook anything particularly adventurous, and my grandmother recently cooked asparagus with the rubber band still around the bunch!
I actually felt my mouth water looking over the cookbook options, I love Latin cuisine but have never attempted to cook anything myself that could be considered authentic for lack of good recipes. This could change that! Tough choice, but I’d go Mayan Cuisine, and then Culinary Mexico, Tamales, The Brazilian Table, Cook Cuban, Culinary Concepts and Celibrate Cuban.
Thank you!
