Jennifer Lopez Being Sued Over Monster-in-Law Movie
Some delusional woman in North Carolina wants to sue Yeni for $158.7 million dollars because Yeni’s movie Monster-in-Law bears more than a passing resemblance to a screenplay she wrote back in 1998. The Guardian reports that Sheri Gilbert, the woman in question has told the media:
“I felt like I’d seen it before,” Gilbert said about her first viewing of Monster-in-Law. “I felt I could predict what would happen in the next scene.”
But so far Warner Bros. the studio behind the movie is not fazed:
“Plaintiff contends that she can ‘own’ the well-worn, general ‘mother-in-law’ character type simply by filing a copyright application,” reads a response from a California lawyer representing Warner Brothers and 33 of the other defendants. “Such is not the law.”
The lady has also named actress Jane Fonda as well as the movie studios in the lawsuit.
Lady, you ain’t gonna get a dime out of Yeni. Heck. let’s all sue. Everyone has a mother-in-law, or relative or frienemy that could’ve been an inspiration for the movie character of the 2005 movie.
