Jimmy Smits Hosting Latin Music Documentary on PBS
PBS is going be airing Latin Music USA a 4-hour documentary about Latin music in October, which from what I can see, is very well-researched, and Jimmy Smits is going to serve as host.
The documentary will cover every epoch of Latin music, from the influence of Latin music on Jazz, and much later to mambo and cha cha cha permeating mainstream music. Other segments will concentrate on the Chicano wave, and the so-called Salsa Revolution, and will stop at the current domination of Latin artists in the mainstream in these past years…like Gloria Estefan, Shakira, Ricky Martin, etc.
Jimmy is really happy about being a part of this. The Nuyorican put out this statement:
“To be involved with a project of this scope and magnitude that explores a subject so close to my heart is incredible I am so pleased to be the voice of this remarkable documentary series that I believe will educate so many about the breadth and impact of Latin music in this country.”
Will all due respect to PBS, but couldn’t that special air on MTV or VH1 or something or Mun2 where most of the audience that really needs to know all this information are more likely to watch!
I’m sure we’re all grateful, but just saying…
