Latino Music News: Juana Molina + Curumin + Jaguares + Pepe Aguilar
Hissip is your source for Latino music too, so here’s what’s happening music-wise among tu gente, ya’ll.
Argentine musician dubbed the “human loop guru” by Remix magazine Juana Molina was interviewed by staff writer Ken Micallef. For those not familiar with her music, here’s a breakdown of her style:
“Molina’s music is both organic, with its warm instrumental textures; and electronic, through her inclusion of barely assisted live-loop machinations. On one song you’ll think she’s chosen some preset, and on the next you ralize she’s beating mad hypnotic flow on the Argentinean bombo leguero.”
Her fifth album Un Dia was released last month, so go and cop it Hissipers.
Also Curumin’s album Japanpopshow released this past Spring is being re-issued by Adrenaline records.

The band Jaguares has dropped the new album 45. At first I was totally clueless as to why they decided to name their album that, but no more! The secret behind the number was delineated for us via an interview the band did with The Chicago Sun Times:

The title, which in Spanish is “Cuarenta Cinco,” refers to 45 million, the number of people estimated to be living in poverty in Mexico. We think the government isn’t doing enough to help its own people,” said Jaguares’ frontman Saul Hernandez in a recent phone interview. “We’re growing up in crisis. We don’t have the [opportunities] that countries in the First World have. The idea of ‘Cuarenta Cinco’ is to help create a consciousness in Mexico, to point to the system and to say we have had enough.”

Wow, and you thought Mana was socially-conscious!
If you’re in the mood for some Latin music throwback, or simply want to buy your abuela or mamita something to rock to, Pepe Aguilar’s ranchera and banda blend album Homenaje could be your thing!
